Thinking about expanding your restaurant's social media presence? Check out what we learned at the Western Foodservice + Hospitality Expo
One of the best parts of being a journalist is getting to go on location to some pretty interesting places. Last month we stopped by the Western Foodservice and Hospitality Expo, where we sampled some tasty snacks and checked out some informative panels. One of those was “Maximizing your Social Media Presence,” a panel led by Fishbowl founder Scott Shaw where we learned some hot tips and good advice for making the most of social media to boost your restaurant or foodservice business.
Whereas advertising was once the realm of bigger restaurants who could afford to shell out the big bucks for TV and print ads, Shaw pointed out that social media has put some major power in the hands of the little guy. “The playing field is not only leveled, it’s actually tilted in favor of the independent,” said Shaw. The best part is that most social media outlets are free to use.
But where do you start? One thing’s for certain: stay on top of the social media options available to you. “It’s not just Facebook,” Shaw noted, “and it’s always changing.” E-mail, Twitter, and FourSquare can all be used effectively in conjunction with Facebook to better reach your audience.
